P.A.R.O.T. Awards Libio, Carr, Boos Scholarships

On August 5, 2019, the Parks and Recreation Foundation of Tamarac awarded $1,000 scholarships to two (2) deserving City of Tamarac Summer Camp staff for the 4th consecutive year. This year, Alexandria Domingo and Destiny Rochester were awarded(pictured left are Destiny Rochester-L and Alexandria Domingo-R). Alexandria will be entering the Masters Degree Program in Exceptional Student Education at the University of South Florida St. Petersburg Campus. Destiny will be entering her sophomore year at Harvard University.

The Libio, Carr, Boos Scholarships were created by P.A.R.O.T. in 2016 to honor Vincenzo Libio, Morgan Carr, and Kevin Boos who died in an automobile accident on September 9, 2015 in Tallahassee. These three individuals lived their lives representative of the mission of the Parks and Recreation Foundation! Vincenzo and Morgan were long-time City of Tamarac camp counselors serving as great role models for the kids. Kevin was a long-time volunteer with City of Tamarac sports programs, and also serving as a great role model for all participants.

In addition to academic achievements, the scholarship award winners are scored on their extracurricular activity and community service involvement.

On behalf of P.A.R.O.T., congratulations to Alexandria and Destiny and thank you to the families of Vincenzo, Morgan, and Kevin for their continued involvement in the City of Tamarac.

Parks and Recreation Foundation  Sponsors Camp for Youth Football League

The Parks and Recreation Foundation recently sponsored a two-night clinic for the Tamarac Cougars Youth Football League. P.A.R.O.T. provided sponsorship in the amount of $4,500 toward the cost of the clinic while the City of Tamarac provided additional funds towards the clinic and the cost of camp shirts. The clinic provided instruction on safety in football, stressing the Heads Up concept for tackling and blocking that has been shown to mitigate the number concussions. Without the support of P.A.R.O.T. the City of Tamarac would not have been able to fund this important training for the youth football participants.

As reported by the President of the Tamarac Youth Football League: First I would like to share Thank You for having our Youth Football teams participate in the Football Clinic. Out of the 275 football players we have registered a little over 200 kids showed up and participated each day. Between activities and lessons that they learned between both days it was a great experience. The high performers received awards at the end of the training and that just sealed the deal for them. The trainers split the kids up by age so that each of them would receive their needed attention. Our coaches participated, as well, and they themselves learned a few drills to utilize during our day to day practices. Thank you so much for this opportunity, it was great appreciated.

Michelle Thomas, President – Tamarac Youth Football
